A midsummer wedding

Renu Tandon is all set to design the Hyderabadi trousseau this season

Think trousseau in this part of the world and the nawabi wardrobe - elaborate khada dupattas and shararas with salma, zardosi and rest of heavy detailing come to mind. Not comfortable really, especially if it is a summer shaadi. Here is a designer who promises to give the Hyderabadi trousseau a minimalist twist.

After having worked on the ensemble for the Laxmi Mittal khandaan, including a mota dhaga collection featuring peacock hues on beige, and a georgette sari with brocade border for his daughter's trousseau, Renu Tandon is all set to do the wedding wardrobe for the Alam Khan household here. "I will be using my latest line of nets for Maria's wedding," she reflects. "I saw a lot of people repeating same work - crystals, sequins and dark colours here. Mine is much different moti ka kaam and thread work. That was the reason probably that my work appeared beautiful," adds Renu, showcasing her Spring Summer 2005 line `white getting into pink and orange' replete with nakshi in gold and silver, gota on light beige and Kashmiri embroidery for the Shades fashion show, limiting herself to soft colours while keeping the darker tones for her wedding collection.

A regular at Bridal Asia for the past four years, Renu is bang on when it comes to trends. "Paisleys are the motifs to watch out this season. Heavy sequins are out this year. People will be getting into fire colours - kesar getting into orange and maroon. Plum is going to be hot along with fuchsia. Louis Vuitton has already used fuchsia for his bags this season," she says.

Looking ahead

Renu also imports accessories— shoes and bags apart from working on her label Mynah that is retailed at Yasmin (LA), Mumbai Se (Singapore and Dubai), Ensemble (Mumbai, Delhi) and at Mebaz in the twin cities.

Her prêt line, opaque firoza and coral beads on hand woven cotton long kurtas and kaftans are for the global market. Her new line for the Western market will be the Taj collection— white kurtas with Mughal motifs in red silk thread. "Indian embroidery is a hit worldwide and will be the trend this year after god and goddesses that were in vogue last year," she says.

As for the twin cities, Renu Tandon's Mynah Designs is sure going to soar high on Hyderabadi hi-streets, going by the response her collection received at the show here.
