Europe in pink and lime
Many summers ago, she had got an opportunity to visit Italy in a student exchange programme to study the international market. In the year 1970, she was appointed consultant to Handloom and Handicraft Board, also represented Indian merchandising in Japan.
And now at age 57, Delhi-based Kanwal Chaudry is a dress designer. Ready with her new summer collection, she talks about it at her K.G. Marg studio, "This season, I have got designs with happy and joyous colours like pink, lime, peach and yellow, all based on white. Most of these clothes have European influence as I studied there. The mountains, valleys and landscapes have got a reflection in this collection. Kanwal's collection, named Flower Woods, Rosaline, Lotus, Antique Rose, Orchid and Daisy Dance, have elegant and restraint designs, reflecting the maturity of the designer. "Antique Rose is the evening wear inspired by Germany. Orchid has got six colours on white and is designed for taller ladies. It comes in medium and large sizes. Rosaline is a formal dress line while Daisy Dance is informal wear," explains Kanwal.
Two things that make this designer collection a tad different from the usual is the price range (Rs.3500- Rs.5000) plus its wearability.
