Summer trends

The fashion scene in Chennai will be abuzz, as several nationally acclaimed designers making their debut in the city during the unveiling of Spring-Summer 2005 at the Vimonisha Private Collection on April 21 and 22.

Taarish, a smart combination of zodiac signs, by the sisters Moushumi and Mahua, is an exclusive line of handpainted creations, using Yuzen, a Japanese technique. After tasting success in other parts of the country and abroad, the duo are presenting their line for the first time in Chennai. They work on pure fabrics such as chiffon and cotton to create garments and saris that are sheer works of art. Hand-painted cotton saris with intricate gold, silver and thread borders, georgettes and chiffon embellished with pearls and Swarovski crystals are the highlights.

Suhana from Delhi is showcasing the Veer-Zara Collection in Chennai. Their Pakistani and Aligarhi suits with crochet, mukaish and abdla work on soft mulmul fabric are perfect for summer. Sitara, phoolpati, badla resham to mirror work and lucknowi embroidery make the collection special.

Anamika's of Kolkata has put together a collection of saris, kurtis and yardage. What makes the range stand out is the use of prints, batik, petit point, French knot and Parsi embroidery. The colour palette is bright and summery, with aquas and serene greens to provide a cool touch.

Dogri from Jaipur is another line that will be on show. New hues and shades, hand block printing and high quality fabric are the unique features of the collection.

Other designers include Shree Vani Creations of Delhi with a range of designer salwar suits and fabrics in crepe, silk, georgette and cotton, and Pranava of Hyderabad with salwar suits and fabrics in cotton, chiffon, kota and silk cotton.

You can pick up some interesting pieces of jewellery to match the clothes from the collection being presented by Mangalam Jewellers of Mumbai, featuring diamonds and precious stones set in traditional and contemporary designs.

For the house proud kind Hemdzns of Chennai is showcasing an entire range of home textiles - curtains, cushion covers, table linen, besides salwar sets, trousers, skirts tops and embroidered saris. Then there is Trisensa Ceramics which will be introducing a collection of water containers in exclusive designs to suit home and office needs.

Look out for all this and more at the Vimonisha Private Collection, 12 Khader Nawaz Khan Road, Nungambakkam.
