For stage-struck youngsters

Teenagers interested in theatre can participate in the package planned by Masquerade this summer. They can also hone their histrionic skills by becoming part of Landing Stage, which is to be launched soon.

MASQUERADE, THE Chennai-based English theatre group, has since 1994 come up with 25 productions and 75 performances. Young talent and experienced artistes work together to being entertainment to Chennai-ites. Masquerade also annually hosts Natak - Chennai's only Festival of College Theatre.

With the city's theatre climate getting healthier, Masquerade is launching its first full artistic season from March-June 2003. The Summer Season will consist of four theatre productions, showcasing some of world theatre's contemporary classics as well as rib-tickling comedies.

The productions are low cost and the four-month season will see 15 performances. Shows have been planned for the fourth week of March, fourth week of April, first week of May and second week of June, with rehearsed readings and story reading sessions for children in April and mid-May.

The theatre group's school project, M4Children, involves a tie-up with schools with the aim of founding a theatre club, running theatre courses. Two full-length productions have been planned in schools some time in mid-April.

Masquerade is also in the process of launching its Youth Theatre Group, Landing Stage, to initiate teenagers (14- 19 years) into theatre and the performing arts. Youngsters who consider theatre as a forum for expression, as a form of self-discovery, as a laboratory for experimentation, as a process oriented journey and as a medium to bring entertainment will find Landing Stage a rewarding exposure. In short, Landing Stage is an experimental laboratory for youth to test and hone their creative talent. Once a year, during summer, Landing Stage will conduct a two-week paid workshop at the end of which, attempts will be made to have an audition free production, the idea being to ensure that the participants have an enriching experience.

For the rest of the year, youngsters who are part of Landing Stage can keep in touch with one another, perhaps meet once a week and continue activities at reading/rehearsed reading levels.

Masqerade — the performance group, is situated at no.9 (new 17), B-1 &2, 62nd Street, Ashok Nagar ph: 23716740. More details can also be had at with the subject: I WANT TO JOIN "Landing Stage".
