    TN Govt transfers vigilance Chief

Chennai (PTI): In the midst of controversies over tapping of telephones of officials leading to the resignation of Social Welfare Minister Poongothai Aladi Aruna, the Tamil Nadu government today transferred Chief of Vigilance Department SK Upadhyay whose phone figured prominently in all the incidents.

Upadhyay has been posted as Director General of Police, Training, Chennai and replaced by K Natarajan, DGP, Training, an official press release here said.

Media here carried the tapped phone conversation between the Chief Secretary L K Tripathy and Upadhyay about a case relating to Opposition AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa after which the government appointed a one-man judicial commission which submitted its report on Monday.

Poongothai submitted her resignation on May 14 after Janata party president Subramanian Swamy released a CD containing recording of her conversation with Upadhyay over a case involving her relative facing corruption charges.
