SAFE festival

The twelfth annual music festival of Shanthi Arts Foundation and Endowments (SAFE) gets under way tomorrow, December 8, at Sastri Hall. This year SAFE honours vidushis Rama Ravi, Suguna Purushothaman and Sugua Varadachari. Sulochana Pattabhiraman, gu ru and musicologist, presides over the inaugural function that begins at 4.45 p.m. N. Murali, president, Music Academy, and Managing Director, The Hindu, presides over the function. Gowri Ramnarayan, music critic, is the special invitee. Suguna Purushothaman and Suguna Varadachari will present a concert at the end of the function. They will be accompanied by Usha Rajagopalan on the violin, Poongulam Subramanian on the mridangam and Guru Prasad on the ghatam.

The ten-day festival, dedicated to veteran Voleti Venkateswaralu, features artists at 4.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. The curtain comes down on December 17.
