Stargazing
Another from Telugu
‘Bommarillu,’ a Telugu super hit, is being remade in Tamil as ‘Santosh Subramaniam,’ with ‘Jayam’ Ravi and Genelia replacing Siddharth and Trisha who starred in the Telugu version. Prakash Raj who played the hero’s father in Telugu, continues as Ravi’s father in Tamil. ‘Santosh …’ is being directed by the successful director of three re-makes, Raja. ‘Bommarillu’ was directed by Raja’s classmate and assistant, Bhaskar. Bhaskar is more a part of Raja’s family. In fact, it was he who recommended Bhaskar for the Telugu project, you hear. The nuances and directorial touches that ‘Bommarillu’ showcased, have put Bhaskar on the winner’s stand.
Mohan returns
Do you remember Mohan who played singer in ever so many films? The actor returns after a hiatus to don the role of hero in ‘Suttapazham.’ “Yes. He’s coming back after a seven-year break,” smiles the film’s director GK. “I needed a mature hero and Mohan filled the bill. Initially he was reluctant. ‘I’m not interested in coming back for the sake of it,’ he said. I suggested he listen to my story before making a decision. He did. Today looking as trim as he did when he was seen last, Mohan is the hero of ‘Suttapazham,’ a comedy thriller,” says GK. “And I know for sure that his fan base is intact,” he adds.
Namesake
After two consecutive hits Sundar C. has become a much-in-demand hero. Hence expectations are high about ‘Thee,’ his next, directed by Kichcha. New face Ragini from Malaysia, who happens to be a relative of Khushboo, is the leading lady of ‘Thee.’ Interestingly the heroine, whose original name is Ramya, christened herself Ragini because the heroine of Simbhu’s ‘Kuththu,’ has the same name. But now the other Ramya has decided to call herself Divya!
The animal in man
Director Samy’s boldness in choice of theme was evident in ‘Uyir.’ His new venture ‘Mirugam,’ is about a man who is completely devoid of humaneness. From parents to wife everyone tries to reform the cruel Aiyyanar in vain. Adhi, who made his debut in Telugu under Teja’s direction, enters Tamil as Aiyyanar, in ‘Mirugam.’ Padmapriya portrays the role of his wife in this intense family drama. Shooting, which took place for more than 70 days in and around Madurai, is nearly over. Another 10 days of work and they should wrap up the shoot, you are told.
