What can you say about an attempt so pedestrian and run-of-the mill? An effort where dad Satyaraj's single-point agenda is to promote son Sibi? Not that Lakshmi Arts' `Vetrivel & Saktivel' (U) lacks a storyline or appreciable performances from the seniors. Yet it gets so predictable that after a point it's not even funny. The best portrayal is easily Vadivelu's. As Sibi's uncle Dandapani he steals the show with laughable humour and underplayed emotional refrains. In a solid role that allows ample scope for the veteran to reveal his potential, Vadivelu provides a treat. It is to the credit of new director Lakshmipriyan (he's written the story, screenplay and dialogue too) that he has utilised Vadivelu's talent well.
Vetrivel (Satyaraj) is a businessman with a happy family comprising his wife (Kushboo) son Saktivel and daughter. But Vetrivel's son-in-law turns out to be a rogue.
Satyaraj's ability needs no commendation. And Sibi can surely hone his skill on the expression front. Kushboo looks as radiant and cheerfully rotund as in her `Jackpot' shows. But her duet with Satyaraj is ridiculous! The heroine is Nikita. Yawning gaps between one occurrence and the next connecting line increases the tedium. Satyaraj's indefatigable energy and the ease with which shoulders his role cannot be faulted. It is only when he so obviously uses `Vetrivel ... ' as a vehicle to rev up Sibi's career, does it irk. And sadly, it benefits neither.
