Heading the cacophonous team are Parthiban and Vadivelu. Ashokan is in charge of the story, screenplay and direction.
What happens
Ilango (Parthiban) will do anything for money. He wishes to get his sister (Mallika) married to a millionaire. He is in love with a rich girl (Lakshmi Rai) himself and fleeces her shamelessly, making her foot all his bills, but the girl doesn't mind his selfishness a wee bit! Chellappa (Vadivelu) is a friend who is always at the receiving end. A petty thief he ends up beaten up by all and sundry.
Thin line
The main problem with `Kundakka ... ' is that an overused, thin comedy line is extended into a full-length feature and in the process falls completely flat.
Almost all incidents in the film defy rationality that after a point you just lose count of the gaffes. Unconnected and irrelevant, many scenes hang loose and limp.
Vadivelu tries to lift the film to reasonable levels of comedy but fails. Parthiban is more interested in projecting himself as a person who thinks and acts differently that other aspects seem to matter little to him.
Lakshmi Rai, who provides the female interest, is satisfied with appearing in skimpy costumes, while Kalairani and Mallika are worthy additions.
You are in for a shock when you get to know that the ear-rattling title music is Bharadwaj's. The Srinivas-Janani number is a saving grace, though it gives a sense of déjà vu.
Don't look for coherence or logic in `Kundakka Mandakka,' because most of the time it is inane humour that rules.
